🌟 My “Why” — The Heart Behind Crowning The Starz

By Shanee White

I didn’t become a birth worker because it sounded beautiful. I became one because I needed one.

My journey began long before I ever knew what a doula was. I was a young Black mother navigating a hospital system that didn’t always hear me, honor me, or see me. My first birth ended in a traumatic C-section — not because my body failed, but because I wasn’t educated, supported, or empowered to advocate for myself. I remember lying there, scared, unheard, and wishing someone was beside me who understood my voice, my fears, and my strength.

But my story didn’t end there.

From that very first C-section, I went on to achieve four VBACs — each birth becoming a reclamation of my power. Every contraction, every breath, every moment reminded me of what is possible when a mother feels safe, informed, and supported.

That transformation lit a fire inside me.

It became my why.

I became a doula and created Crowning The Starz so that other women — especially Black mothers — never have to birth alone in silence, confusion, or fear. I stand in that room with the heart of a mother who’s been through it, the experience of a woman who fought for her own voice, and the spirit of someone who believes every mother deserves respect, care, and advocacy.

My work isn’t just a service.

It’s a mission.

It’s healing.

It’s protection.

It’s empowerment.

I show up so that another mother can walk out feeling powerful, informed, supported — and crowned in her own light.

This is my why.

This is Crowning The Starz.

And this is the work my soul was called to do.3🌟 My “Why” — The Heart Behind Crowning The Starz
